I live in an Eichler home in the San Francisco East Bay Area. Actually it's my third Eichler. In 1970 my parents bought an Eichler home on Mt. Rainier Court in Lucas Valley. It was a flat roof model with a large cinder block wall which defined an interior courtyard. As a young child I remember the large pine trees which surrounded the house, and playing on the Japanese style bridge in the courtyard with the block wall marking the boundry of my universe. I also recall soaring walls of glass in the living room and the kitchen table which attached to the Thermador cooktop.

My husband's and my first purchased home was an Eichler in Ventura County. It was a "Double A" Model, designed by Jones and Emmons, which had been beat to a pulp by its former owners. We spent 7 years fixing it up and eventually, regretfully, sold it in 2007 when a job transfer took us to the other side of Southern CA.
Today I live in another Jones and Emmons Eichler (model 1184) in the far Eastern part of the East Bay. Somedays we feel as if we live at the end of the world, but we love it out here. Yes, it can be nearly as hot as Death Valley in the Summer, but it's also quiet with a friendly community. Our home, which we bought recently, is comfortable, but still in need of some cosmetic renovation. I call it much needed 're-Eichlering'. In future posts I will be sharing some of our process of re-modeling our house as well as my other interests which include Mid Century Modern design and Art. Many thanks for reading.
